The small size of a handful of species of tiny fish belies the large role they play in the marine food web.

Forage fish are a crucial component of the B.C. coastal and marine food web and include species like northern anchovy, Pacific sand lance, Pacific herring, surf smelt, and eulachon. While they are just a handful of species, these fish are important to the food web.
